As I have mentioned a few times before on my blog, I am from Iceland. That means that I am Icelandic and I am very proud of that fact. I have lived back and forth between Iceland and the United States since I was 10 years old. I love both countries as my own. I can not imagine having to choose one or the other. I refuse to choose one or the other!!
My whole family lives in Iceland and I love to visit them. I also love when they come here to visit me :o) When I was in Iceland this summer I picked up a book about the Icelandic Yule Lads (Icelandic Santa's) so we could have it to read around Christmas time. I thought it was a great way to keep the Icelandic traditions alive in our home and I knew the boys would love reading this book.
Over the next few weeks I am going to share the story of the Yule Lads with you. I am going to tell you some of the things that are in this book as well as tell you some of my favorite memories as a child. I hope you enjoy learning a little bit about my culture.

I recently did a post offering to "my gals", who do a post on their blog, about one of my projects that they really like, I will have a area on a side bar (and not at the bottom-I want to make it very visible) listing gals who have posted my projects and a link to your blogs. I haven't come up with a title for it yet-still thinking about it. Obviously if someone does 3posts that month and someone else does 5 the person who did 5 will be at the top of the page. If you are interested in doing this for some blog recognition, you need to let me know each time you do a post so I can come over and make note of it.
ALSO I have been getting a lot of e-mails from gals over the past week plus that I am no longer showing up in their readers. Google said the Follower button is having all kinds of problems and people need to subscribe to get updates in a timely manner. Even if you have subscribed can you please come back over and re-subscribe because Google lost hundreds of my subscription list-gone poof--not good.

That is so awesome to celebrate your culture! By chance, have you eaten Vinatarta? My Granny always made it for Christmas and now I make it...and love it!
one of my friends is from Sweden and she feels the same way. She is actually there right now even though they live in Toledo Ohio. My mom is Canadian and still holds her citizenship there. Lots of country pride. :)
Vinatarta is a very rich cake. There are about 6 layers of very thin cake with pureed prunes in between! I know it's a Scandanavian dessert, but not sure where it originated.
Yes Helga has eaten Vínarterta, we bake the terta every year. I just made one this morning.
