3 years ago today...

When Dewayne and I got engaged we wanted to get married the next day. We were so excited about getting engaged and were so head over heels in love that we just wanted to get married NOW. Our families told us that we should wait a little while so we decided to get married in May 2008.

We got engaged on December 21, 2006 and Dewayne was set to deploy to Afghanistan around January 15, 07. We were really excited and so in love and then on January 7, 2007 I found out I was pregnant! We were excited and scared but decided that we were still going to wait to get married until May 2008.

Dewayne left for training on January 21, 07 and I was miserable. I cried my eyes out and felt like I had just lost him forever. I was not supposed to see Dewayne again until he came home on leave and then he was supposed to come home from Afghanistan in the end of April of 2008. In the end of February, Dewayne's Great Grandmother passed away and Dewayne was given emergency leave from training to go to her funeral. I drove to North Carolina to get him and together the two of us (and Kobe in the belly) drove to Chicago for the funeral.

We spent those 5 days together and we fought almost the whole time. I was really scared that meant that things were going down hill for us. Dewayne left for training again and I spent the next few days crying. Then I started to get cramps and contractions and the Doctor put me on 50% bed rest and I had to cut down my hours at work to 4 hours a day. When that happened I lost my health insurance at work. Now I got really scared and wasn't sure how I was going to do this with the baby and support two other sons in the mean time.

Dewayne talked to his supervisors and was given leave for 4 days to come home. We decided to get married before he left for Afghanistan instead of wait till he came home. It meant that I would have insurance for me and the baby and the boys would have insurance too. It also was better because if something would have happened to Dewayne in Afghanistan, the boys and I would have been taken care of.

The boys and I drove to North Carolina on March 13th to picked up Dewayne. We stayed on base for one night and then we took our sweet time driving the next day. We decided to stay in a hotel again that night and then on March 15th we drove the rest of the way home. We got home and I dressed in the only pair of jeans that fit me anymore and a pink shirt. Dewayne wore his uniform and off to the court house we went.

We were married by the Justice of the Peace on March 15, 2007. I do not have any pictures from that day because we didn't know we were allowed to bring our camera into the court house and we had two giggling little boys that would have made great photographers. It was really cute because Tyrique and Markus could not stop giggling the whole time we were getting married and when we kissed they both said EEWW and then laughed as hard as they could.

It was a great day and we ordered Chinese food for dinner. Dewayne left for training camp again on that Sunday and I was able to see him one more time before he left for Afghanistan,

Dewayne only ended up staying in Afghanistan until July of 2007 because my pregnancy had so many complications and the hospital called his command and told them to send him home. We didn't know until the day before he left that he was coming home for good.

These pictures were taken the day I dropped Dewayne off at Training camp. They are the only pictures I have from that weekend.
These last 3 years have been wonderful. Yes, we have had our ups and downs but we have pulled through it all and we are still head over heels in love....most days :o)

Thank you for these wonderful 3 years together.
I am so excited to see where we will be in the next 50 years :o)
I love you with all my heart!!!
