Iceland

On Monday April 19th I woke up and Dewayne and I went to get a UHAUL trailer to put on the back of the Tahoe.  We loaded the trailer up and finished the last things we needed to do such as get Markus and Kobe hair cuts.  We left at about 1 pm and headed towards Minnesota.  It took us almost 9 hours to get to the airport in St. Paul....well the hotel that was right next to the airport.  Sorry I wasn't able to see you Pennie but by the time I passed your town it was after 9 and we were ready to get to the hotel and get to sleep.

When we got to the hotel it took us well over an hour to get all the suitcases in and get settled.  We said our good byes to Dewayne and his cousin who drove with to MN.  It was really hard to say bye, it was even harder to watch Kobe say bye to his Daddy that he loves so much.  I cried most of that night, when I woke up the next morning I looked like someone had beaten me and my face forgot to bruise.  I was really swollen.  I decided at that point that I was not going to allow myself to cry on the way to Iceland.

The boys and I headed to the airport at a little after 9 am with the shuttle from the hotel and all of our bags...it ended up being 11 suitcases and 5 carry ons not including the diaper bag, my laptop and purse.  To say we had our hands full is an understatement.  It was really hard to get everything checked in by myself with 3 boys.  Tyrique and Markus helped me so much but I would have needed 1 or 2 more adults to pull this off.  We had 3 luggage carts, Kobe's stroller and we were pulling suitcases behind us.  By the time I got the suitcases checked in I was exhausted and the poor boys were too.

We went through security and let me tell you...security is no joke!!!  They went through everything we owned and we had to repack everything as fast as we could right there on the spot as we were trying to put on our shoes and belts.  After we got through security we hit a rest area for families, they had couches, rockers, a crib and changing table.  We were sitting there when I realized I had forgotten my bag that had all my toiletries in it.  I ran back to security and they found my bag and as they started going through the bag I saw that the bag also had all my jewelry in it too :-0  That would have been horrible to lose!!!  Thank goodness security found my bag!

After that the boys and I went to our gate and waited to be called into our plane.  Once we were in the plane Tyrique fell asleep right away and Kobe was asleep before the plane had taken off.  Markus fell asleep fast after that and I couldn't for the life of me fall asleep.  I can never sleep in planes or cars....I am always so excited and scared at the same time that I can't relax enough to fall asleep.

The plane ride went smooth and we got to Philly and decided to get some Chinese food while we were there.  We ate at the gate so we wouldn't have to run around like crazy.  Kobe played with a little boy there and Tyrique, Markus and I chit chatted about getting to Iceland.  We were only in Philly for about and hour and then off to Boston we went.

The boys stayed awake in the plane to Boston and we talked and played around with plenty of space to do so.  When we got to Boston we had to take a shuttle to a different terminal and check into our plane that was headed to Iceland.  We didn't spend very much time waiting there either...we were very lucky with the layover times, they were all nice and short.  We boarded the plane to Iceland at about 9 pm on Tuesday the 20th of April after a long 12 hours of traveling.  The plane ride to Iceland took about 5.5 hours and no one slept very much in that plane besides Tyrique.  Kobe fell asleep about an hour before we got there and I had to wake him up about 40 minutes later to change his diaper and dress him.

We got to Iceland at 7 something am Iceland time (2 am Chicago time) after a VERY long trip into our wonderful families arms.  If felt so good to finally be finished with traveling but it doesn't feel real that we are moved here.  I enrolled the boys in school the day we got here and they started school today.  They both loved school and had nothing but good things to say when they came home.  We spent Thursday-Saturday at my Mamma's house and it was so good to be there.  The boys went swimming with my sisters and Kobe spent lots of time at the park or on walks with my sisters...they LOVE having the baby there to play with and spoil :o)

I went to look at the school that I want to go to Law school at and I loved it!!!  It looks like a great place to live and raise children.  It is a tiny little college town about 30 minutes away from where my Mamma lives and about 2-2.5 hours away from where I live right now.  The town has a little store that is only open a few hours a day, a pre-school, the college and housing for the students and teachers.  Tyrique

I am really excited about this school and can't wait to start this new adventure in our life.  Right now I am trying to unpack and put everything away that needs to be put away.  I came to my house on Saturday and have been cleaning and trying to put stuff away since.  The apartment has been sitting for 9 months so there is a lot of dust to clean.  I have emptied all the suitcases but the stuff is sitting on the floor in the living room and dining room in piles waiting to be put away....as soon as I find a place for everything it will be put away :o)

Now I am going to go put Kobe to bed, he doesn't want to go to sleep on his own tonight.  He needs his Mamma there with him.  He is really insecure and he is having a pretty hard time with this move and separation form his Daddy.  Hopefully he will start doing better soon.  He has been asking for his pacifier a lot lately and I was really tempted to go buy him one yesterday...I was just feeling really sorry for him then!  I didn't go buy one though, I don't want to have to take it away from him again.

I just got my computer set up today and I will be posting more and also getting around to reading some blogs too....imagine that :o)  I have had withdraws from not being able to blog and read what is going on in your worlds.

Oh - surprise, surprise...I'm the first to comment - I've been like a stalker on your blog! For some reason, I can't read the comments on mine right now! Hmphf! Poo! So, I'll just have to hang out here for a while...

It's so nice to hear from you. I figured you were setting your computer up or something. I've had Helga withdrawls. But, you've been plenty prayed for! ;)

You sound happy. I hope you are. You'll have to post plenty of pictures. I do wonder what things look like over there. Did you see any of the ash from the volcano when you were in the air? That's such a big thing in the news...

So - is it cheaper to live there or more expensive. I'm just full of questions! I always am...

That wore me out just reading it! Glad you made it there safely. Things will be all settled before you know it.

Wow, that was some major traveling girl! I'm so glad that everything went smoothly and everyone did so well. I hope that Kobe is doing okay. Parents separating is never easy especially being so young. I can't wait to see all kinds of pictures. I flew over Iceland once but didn't get a good look. ;)

Oh wow, are you living in Iceland now? Whereabouts - Reykjavik? My husband and I cycled around Route 1 a few years ago, it struck me as an amazing country.

Visting to welcome you to SITS!

Wish I would have known you were going to be in MN. I would have stopped by your hotel to say "hi". I live about 20 minutes from the airport. Oh well, you said you were pretty tired anyway. I guess I have an excuse to visit Iceland one day right?
